Joinery

Is the production of structures built from wood intended for internal and external use. Joinery should only be carried out by properly qualified contractors. The inefficient use, storage and handling of wooden materials can lead to significant environmental impacts.

Key environmental issues include:

• dust generated during sawing of materials
• odours that are potentially hazardous (e.g. from adhesives)
reuse and recycling of materials on site (e.g. of offcuts or previously removed materials)
• spillages of paints and solvents
• storage and handling of materials (e.g. paints, varnishes, solvents, adhesives and sealants)
• waste minimisation (e.g. reduction of offcuts).
