There is a wide variety of roofing materials from which to select a roof finish. Whilst the selection of a roofing material will usually be for aesthetic, cost and planning reasons, it is worth considering alternatives and the environmental impacts of their use. Roofing materials are particularly amenable to reuse. Reuse of any of the durable materials below, from a local demolition site further reduces environmental impact. The types of roofing materials available include; natural slate or stone, artificial slate, clay tiles and accessories, concrete tiles and accessories, metal, roofing membranes, and naturally-occurring compounds (e.g. asphalt).
