cast in-situ piling (including continuous flight augers)
Cast in-situ piles are formed within a pre-dilled hole as foundations to support structures. The hole is bored by a rig and often needs support (by a temporary or premanent casing) to prevent the hole from collapsing. The pile is created by filling the hole with concrete (or bentotnite, etc). Reinforcement (e.g. a steel cage) is usually included to increase the strength of the pile.
Continuous flight auger piling is a special form of cast in-situ piling where an auger is screwed into the ground with the pile being formed by pumping material down the hollow stem of the auger as the auger is rotated out of the ground.
