European Marine Sand and Gravel Group learning seminar and site visit: London Gateway
1 September 2011

This learning seminar took place at London Gateway, which will be the UK’s newest deep-sea container port and Europe’s largest logistics park. The seminar provided delegates with a unique understanding of the delivery of the London Gateway project including the engineering, setup, modelling, monitoring and management of the site. This site visit enabled delegates to see the development of the port and to learn from those involved in the delivery of this exemplar project.

Once complete, London Gateway will enable the world’s largest container ships to dock. The port’s highly efficient road, rail and sea links will offer an efficient and more environmentally-friendly way to transport goods to their destination. Currently hundreds of operatives are working at the site, with dredging and new land creation taking place alongside the development of key infrastructure.
