CIRIA – the UK’s leading member-based research and information organisation dedicated to improvement in the construction industry – has announced that it will present a series of environmentally-themed technical seminars, hosted at the UK’s largest civil engineering exhibition, Civils 2007.
These free events will be held on 20 November 2007 in a purpose-built seminar theatre, within the exhibition hall at Earls Court 2.
Sustainable asset management for transport infrastructure (speaker: Philip Charles, CIRIA) will reveal innovative asset management techniques used to meet modern-day sustainability challenges; Managing alien invasive plants and animals on development and infrastructure projects (speaker: Steven Wheeler, CIRIA) will discuss the management and control methods used to control the impact of invasive and alien species on development; and Sustainable management of ground gasses (speaker: Joanne Kwan, CIRIA) will offer better understanding of dealing with different types of ground gases.
CIRIA staff will be available on exhibition stand B2 for the duration of the three-day show. Visitors are invited to find out more about CIRIA guidance and training available relating to green roofs, including: Building Greener (C644) – a new publication about the benefits, costs, design, construction and maintenance of green roofs and other biodiversity features for buildings; and a series of training courses aimed at bringing construction professionals up-to-speed with what green roofs have to offer. Other features at the stand will include information about CIRIA research projects, Management of invasive plant species and alien animal species (RP759) and Management of VOCs generated from brownfield sites (RP766). New guidance Iron and steel bridges: condition appraisal and remedial treatment is also scheduled to be launched to coincide with Civils2007.
