About SAFEGROUNDS

“SAFEGROUNDS” stands for SAFety and Environmental Guidance for the Remediation of UK Nuclear and Defence Sites.

The origins of the network go back to 1998 when greater openness was emerging in the nuclear sector and industry committees were discussing the difficulties of estimating and managing the liabilities posed by contaminated land on nuclear sites. They identified the need for guidance – and CIRIA was invited to share its long experience of developing consensus-based guidance production.

About SD:SPUR

“SD:SPUR” stands for Site Decommissioning: Sustainable Practices in the Use of Resources. The initiative was developed to establish through dialogue safe, socially, economically and environmentally sustainable practices in the use of resources arising from the decommissioning of nuclear sites.
