The
use of rock in hydraulic engineering17 February 2009, London
In 1991 CIRIA/CUR produced the Manual on the use of rock in coastal and shoreline engineering, commonly referred to as “The Rock Manual” (CIRIA, 1991). Since the publication of this and other reference texts significant research has been carried out to improve understanding of rock behaviour and to determine improved practices for hydraulic engineering. Consequently, a new manual has been developed to bring the earlier publications up to date and has been given a broader scope that increases the focus on environmental and sustainability concerns.
To accompany the publication we have produced four courses covering the topics involved:
Ideally all candidates should attend the introductory course before one of the more specific courses, however people with a good knowledge of the manual and subject matter are welcome to join these courses directly.
A practical course covering the design of coastal and port structures with hands on examples and case studies to test your understanding.
Delegates should have attended the introductory course or be familiar with the contents of The Rock Manual.
